Todays date is the 28 July 2018 NZST. And we are headed rapidly into a technology singularity. Exponential growth into an unknown apex of human consciousness.
It’s been talked about a lot and it falls to any writer to write something new about it. Or write it in a new way. So without further ado I will attempt to record my thoughts on the matter and create a vauge predicted timeline of the near,10-20 year future.
One of the most radical and nearest approaching technological advancement, will be the onset of more intuitive, user-friendly, Reality engines.
Usually described as game engines (a term that I think may dissolve as their use becomes more broad.) these software will be used by communicators of any description to go into further, unprecedented detail to communicate their ideas. Making physical realities. Though videogames are making incredible headway in expanding their genres, the advent of more accessable engines will mark a renaissance of digital art. Empowering those without the time, will, funds or health to gain expertise in digital creative software to begin to carve out new realities. And helping those in the industry to have a greater breath of control and efficiency in digital media as well.
The evidence is on youtube but will only be understood on release. I spend any more time specifically on engines, just know that there’s one being released in early 2019.
The free labour market of the AI assistant is the key ingredient to the singularity and is what people ususally mean when they say singularity. Using advanced efficient tools to make more advanced efficient tools to make more advanced efficient tools, in an exponential curve towards power over our environment.
With the combo of AI and greater User experience and engagement with advanced tools. These UI philosophies will extend to all technology. Making everything easier and faster to use. Prompting and encouraging your engagement all the while. All with ethical variences and preferences, such as those seen in Apple’s recent keynote where they show of greater control over discouraging habitual access to certain applications.
Drugs and Bio-enhancement. As the tools get better so will the results. More control over focus and motivation to cope with your radically changing reality. Bio tech will monitor our bodies and react in real time. adjusting hormone levels, stimulant/depressant levels. There will grow a black market that will move faster than the beurocracy of pharmaceutical companies will be able to keep up with.
Public and private enterprise will continue to be challenged.
Big players Google, Apple, Amazon, facebook.
Will it get to the point that they do jobs better than the government. Will they simply continue to be tools of the government. Probably.
3D printing/ Advanced manufacturing. Being able to quickly design an object digitally and print it quickly at home will reduce manufacturing costs and make the primary resource raw materials and designs.
